About Paddle Duel
Paddle Duel is a modern take on Pong, the 1972 Atari arcade game that is often counted among the titles that launched the video game industry. The rules are about as simple as a game can be: bounce the ball back and get it past your opponent.
You control the bottom paddle and the computer controls the top one. The ball speeds up with every return, up to a maximum, and the angle it leaves your paddle depends on where it hits: the centre sends it straight, the edge sends it away at a sharp angle. The computer follows the ball with limited speed and adds a small aiming error after each of your hits, so steep angles and fast rallies are your best way to score. It also gets slightly quicker as your score rises, which makes the last points the hardest. The first player to seven points wins the match.
Matches are short, usually a few minutes, which makes this a good quick game. On desktop use the mouse or the left and right arrow keys, and on a phone drag your finger anywhere on the board. Each point you score adds 10 to your result and a match win adds a 50 point bonus, and your best result is recorded in your browser.
Tips and strategies
- Move toward the ball early instead of waiting until it arrives.
- Use the edge of the paddle to send steep angles the computer struggles to reach.
- After each return, drift back toward the centre so you can cover both sides.
- Vary your angles — predictable shots are easy for the computer to track.
